How to Help as a Leader

Did you know? Not all Cub Scout leaders lead dens. Cub Scout Pack 540 has nearly a dozen leaders who are currently not serving as den leaders, and they are a deeply appreciated and vital piece of our leadership system.

Being a leader is not complicated. You just do about 90 minutes of online training (Safeguarding Youth Training and hazardous weather) and register with scouts as a leader in our pack. We can help you handle all the paperwork! Parents who are leaders are automatically counted in when we evaluate our cub-to-leader ratios for every den and pack event – even if you are not registered to actually perform a leadership task at that event! That means your mere presence as a registered, trained leader makes it possible for us to do more things, and you do not have to start taking on official duties unless you want to. (If you do want to, then please, email your cubmaster, Carole Ellis, at carolejellis (at) gmail.com RIGHT NOW, because we are excited to hear this!).

But seriously, just by being present, you open up opportunities not just for your own scout, but for others as well. That’s a big, big deal. At this point, everyone asks, “Do I get to wear the uniform?” The answer is: YES! But, you don’t have to. Some of our adult-trained leaders never invest in a uniform or wear anything other than maybe the pack tee shirt. Others love wearing the uniform and everything that comes with it. That is entirely up to you. We just appreciate your time, training, and dedication to scouting, and we see it whether you’re in uniform or not.

So, if you want to take things to the next level and be part of our Pack 540 leadership at events, den meetings, or just as a strong and silent partner, please email our cubmaster, and we’ll get the process started. And THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO!
