Join us as we travel into the past and discover why and how people from 1,000 years ago built mounds in their town. Learn how the town’s people lived and the similarities and differences between us. Take a hike to find out why they decided to live where they did and what animals and plants surrounded them. All these discoveries will lead you to receive the Etowah Mounds Junior Ranger Badge and Rank Achievements too!
Our adventure will begin with a presentation by the Park’s Ranger and move on to a tour and investigation of the mounds. Take a walk to the top of the tallest mound and look at the view. You will stand where others stood 1,000 years ago! Once the tour is over, we will take a quick water/snack break before going on age-appropriate hikes along the river and through the countryside with our family or Den. Take some time while hiking to use a scavenger hunt to identify trees, bugs, and animals of the local area. Please talk with your Den Leader about Den and Family Led Hikes.
After the tour and hike, take some time with your family to go through the park’s museum to see the art, relics, and diorama of what the town may have looked like, or have a picnic lunch on the tables in the green in front of the park. You will have all-day access to enjoy the park.
Sign up below and join the Pack as we have Fun Adventuring. We look forward to exploring with you!
