Summer Events 2023

Happy Summer! We might slow down a little in summer, but our Cub Scout Pack is still having fun! We participate in a program called the Pack Summertime Award! Each scout can earn a Pack Summertime pin to wear on their uniform if they participate in one scouting event in June, July, and August. We’ve got lots of options to choose from, so make sure you let your den leader know when you attend!

Summer Bingo – Anytime!

Print out this BINGO card and try to get five in a row! If you cannot make an event during one of the summer months, please hand in this BINGO card to your den leader with a complete row!

Flag Day/Week: Saturday June 17th, @ 9 am

On Saturday, June 17, our Pack will be helping DWUMC. We will be meeting at 9am in the morning at the pavilion, and will be walking the church campus to pick up any trash (bring a trash bag and maybe some gloves) and then we will speak with some veterans about Flag Day (June 14th). Please wear your CLASS A uniform as we will be folding flags.

Bike Rodeo: Saturday, June 24 @ 10am

Bring your bikes, trikes, scooters, and helmets to the parking lot by Building A (The BIG sanctuary farthest from Due West Road). We’ll be riding around, through some easy obstacles, learning about bike safety from some officers, and even decorating “license plates” for our bikes!

Due West Elementary Service Day: Saturday, July 22 (rain date is the 29) @ 9am

Each year, we perform a service to Due West Elementary. This is typically in the form of yard work (mulching, pine straw, weeding, etc.) You will want to bring yard tools like shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, work gloves, and your water bottle, and wear closed-toe shoes. You can also bring paintbrushes suitable for stain, rags and perhaps some sanding tools.

See you at 9am to avoid some of the heat!

Recycled Raingutter Regatta: Sunday, August 20, 2023 @ 2pm

RESCHEDULED DATE for August 20th, at 2pm.

School starts August 1st, but we will be pulling anchor and setting sail with our Raingutter Regatta on Sunday, August 6th, at 3pm at the Pavilion. Grab your recycling bin and get creative! Build yourself a boat or raft with a SAIL.

Need some guidance on building your boat? Check out some of these rules or the post from the last race (with lots of examples) Scouts should build boats by creating a boat of their own. They may be decorated in any manner they choose! Get creative, but make sure it’s not too heavy!

  • The boat must be newly built for the current Cub Scouting year. As much as practical, the boat should be substantially built by the Scout with parental supervision.
  • NO motors allowed. Only wind sails will power the boats.
  • Additional parts (visual enhancements) such as Lego Man Drivers or Life Saver rings, decals, paint, stickers, and glue are permitted. Please make sure the decor follows the spirit of Scouting.
  • The finished boat length must be no longer than 8″ and no wider than 5″ (the race lane is 6″ wide)
  • The mast may not be higher than 7” from the deck.
  • The sail may not be in contact with any part of the boat except the mast.

Two scouts will race against each other at a time. Each boat must start with the back of the boat touching the end of the rain gutter; the scout should hold it there with one hand. When the starter says go, the kids will propel the boats by blowing on the sail with a drinking straw or hand fan. THE SCOUT MAY NOT ADVANCE THE BOAT PHYSICALLY AT ANY TIME. If one does so, he/she will be given a warning. If a boat gets broken or sinks during a race, the results stand.

GOOD LUCK, and happy boat building!
