Summertime Fun

It’s time to HAVE FUN! School’s out and summer is here! We’ve got four great activities planned for you this summer, plus even more opportunities through the Atlanta Area Council & Silver Comet District joining in on the fun.

  • June 26 – Spirit Night at Sparkles of Kennesaw
  • July 11 – Fishing at Camp Westin
  • July 25 – Service Day at Due West Elementary
  • August 9 – Recycled Raingutter Regatta at Due West Pavilion

Participate in any three scouting activities this summer and let your den leader know. Scouts who complete three activities can earn the Summertime Fun Adventure Loop!

June 26th – Spirit Night at Sparkles of Kennesaw (4:00-8:00pm)

Beat the heat and have some fun during our Sparkles Spirit Night Friday, June 26th, 2026. Join your fellow Scouts and their families for a fun evening or roller skating and games with Pack540 earning $5 from every ticket sold.

July 11th – Fishing at Camp Westin (8:30am)

Grab your bait, we’re headed to the beautiful BSA property at Camp Westin on Saturday, July 11th, 2026. Sitting right off Lake Allatoona, Camp Westin sports a pavilion down near the Crow and Seminole campsites, where we will have lake access and be able to fish for the morning. Please park in the appropriate areas per the map. Bring your fishing gear, a chair, a water, and maybe a morning snack if you like, and we’ll fish from 8:30-10:30am.

July 25th – Service Day at Due West Elementary School (8:30-10:00am)

Every year, we provide some landscaping services to our neighboring school, Due West Elementary. This year, on Saturday, July 25th 2026, we’ll be helping them get ready for the upcoming school year. Expect to bring your rakes, brooms, and weeding gear, along with bug spray and work gloves. Standby for more details…We’ll start at 8:30am!

August 9th – Recycled Raingutter Regata at Due West Pavilion (3:00-4:00pm)

Set sail for one of our favorite Cub Scout traditions — the Recycled Raingutter Regatta! Scouts will race their handmade recycled boats down the raingutters using only wind power.

Grab some recycled materials and get creative! Design and build a boat or raft with a sail and prepare to race. Boats should be newly built for the current Cub Scout year.

Boat Guidelines

  • Maximum boat size: 8” long x 5” wide
  • Mast height may not exceed 7” above the deck
  • Boats must include a sail
  • No motors or mechanical propulsion allowed
  • Boats are powered only by blowing through a drinking straw
  • Decorations like paint, stickers, decals, and LEGO® figures are welcome and encouraged in the spirit of Scouting

Helpful Tips

  • Add a rudder to help your boat sail straight
  • Test your boat at home in the bathtub before race day
  • Lightweight materials usually work best

Race Rules

  • Two scouts will race head-to-head at a time. Boats will begin at the starting line with the back of the boat touching the end of the gutter. Scouts may only propel their boats by blowing through a straw onto the sail.
  • Hands and straws may NOT touch or push the boat during the race.

Start gathering your recycled supplies now and get ready for an afternoon of creativity, friendly competition, and FUN!
